labelling RED/BROWN/GREEN on the packets of cosmetics and toiletries based on presence of non vegetarian ingredients

Consumer affairs department of Government of India under Ms. Maneka Gandhi has moved to make labelling RED/BROWN/Green on the packets of cosmetics and toiletries . -

It is very welcome move from consumers affair minister. In an era of transparent world and consumer awareness , the ingredients used if contains animal parts, it must be known to the consumer, else we are forced to use non vegetarian origin item which is against by ethical and religious belief. My right for information as a consumer and also my right for religious practice is in danger. Further , sad part is that under legal system , it is questioned on the technical ground as to which department has the right to introduce this system and not on the merits of the issue. Our legal system should change to avoid various serious issues being struck down on technical grounds without taking into account spirit of law as above all technicalities. at least RED for products with non veg component, BROWN with milk products and Green for pure vegetarian will allow consumer to decide what to use. When we have forced to print " smoking is injurious to health" on the cigarette packet itself what is the problem in indicating the nature of the ingredients used in the product on the product label. Hope , Consumers and Media support this move of Ms. Maneka Gandhi , who is silently working towards the welfare of human kind.

Best Regards,
